Google Apps is an exciting new system that will provide us with email, as well as a suite of other Google products that will enable USF students to better communicate, share, and collaborate.

I cannot get my incoming server to work on outlook. I keep getting an error with credentials whether using imap or pop. My outgoing is working perfect, but my in-coming will not retrieve anything. I have used the servers listed here and it will not allow me to access the imap incoming servers and keeps giving me the error message. Any ideas?
Thank God we finally switched from that lame Webmail service to Gmail. Now attachment limits are a lot larger, the email account can hold a much more (I mean, seriously, what were we supposed to do with 56k of space???? It’s like for those same people who still buy 52k flash drives) and the interface is a lot cleaner, not to mention faster. Can’t say no to that.
People who have trouble organizing their mail should read the instructions. Not automatically resort to calling the app stupid. The only thing that is stupid is the failure to actually open your eyes and read the instructions. Honestly, the app isn’t that hard to work.

This is crazy. We can’t go back and forth with Blackboard! If we send an email through Blackboard communications does it get to the instructor and/or classmates? Can’t tell. Cannot connect to server either. What is the actual mail address???? I have to go to webmail, then the link to Google Apps is here and them that mail link. However, if I just enter it into my browser it says the page does not exist. This happens with the link also–takes multiple attempts. If and when I get to the page it takes three to four times for it to accept my login.
Is any of mine and other complaints ever going to be addressed??????
I am unable to convert my email to Google Apps. The signup system rejects my attempts and I am afraid the automatic transfer on June 1 will aslo fail.
I called helpdesk but they were unable to solve my problem.
How can this be fixed?

I welcome google apps here at usf and think it was a smart move.
The webmail interface was horrible, space was very limited, and not to mention, it was very slow.
With Google apps, students get 6gb of email storage, they never have to figure out what emails to delete. They get the quick and
responsive interface of Gmail and all of the features like POP3,forwarding, and IMAP.
Not only does it offer email, it offers Google Docs, where students can publish their documents have other students edit it or view them IN REAL TIME right from a browser window, this is especially beneficial if the student does not have access to Microsoft Word at their current
location. Another benefit is Google Talk, where students can Instant Message another student just by using their usf.edu email.
All of these brings everyone closer to another, creating a streamlined network of students, teachers, and deans.
Personally, I use to forward my usf.edu email to my gmail account due to it’s quick and simple interface and large amounts of email storage. Now I do not have to.
As Susan mentioned above, this is a move in the right direction.

I very strongly dislike this new “Google Aps” system. I find it annoying that I cannot move anything out of my inbox to new folders. Hate it.

Students at many universities are requesting Google Apps be brought to their universities. One of my friends has been asking his university to do this for a couple of years. The pros to google apps is has more space therefore less emails will be rejected due to full mailboxes and we can keep this email even after we graduate.
Give it a chance. You’ll love it in a few months… Change can be good.
This was the absolute worst decision the university could have made. What was the point? We pay constantly increasing tuition and fees and then have our university email taken away? I’m sorry, but what is the advantage of switching to google? I’m in the middle of my last semester, and now I don’t know if I can rely on the new system to deliver my very important graduation related emails. USF is showing no respect for its students with this switch.
this is really frustrating. i am also unhappy with the new email system and i don’t seem to be the only one to say the least. sometimes simplicity is simply better. i am in mexico and am not receiving important emails after the switch. can we have the old system back!!!! please : )

I can’t believe how idiotic this system is. It refuses to recognize the student and you have to sign into the program two or three times in order to get to your mail (if you can get into it without an error message coming through). I feel like the rest of the individuals on this page — I WANT MY ORIGINAL USF EMAIL BACK! I have been waiting for some information to come through my email account from different administrators and guess what –CAN’T FIND MY FREAKIN’ MAIL! This system has been nothing short of frustrating and confusing.

I been trying to set up Apple mail (IMAP) this last week and I can’t get it to work at all! Is there who got it to work?
The fine print on Google’s TOS says they can reproduce and use anything sent via Google. That sounds like danger to those of us concerned with copyright ownership. Have you checked this out with any copyright lawyers or groups such as the National Writers’ Union? Please check this out fully if you don’t know the answer.

You would have to re-register your email in order to be able to use G-Mail.
I enabled POP3, IMAP, and whatever else to receive e-mails on my BlackBerry, but to no success. I decided to just have it forwarded.
I can’t log on. I used the same name and password yet they won’t work. It keeps telling me that no one by that name is a member of gmail???????????????????

Roberta, you can go back to your webmail. It is still there. You can still use it, but your new incoming mail will not be there. Use an alternative for your project.

Miss Dixon: Unfortunately, there;s no way for us to add them automatically, but all of your contacts from WebMail are extracted and attached to the welcome message you recieved when you signed up for Google Apps at USF.
Paul: You can keep the account after you graduate. The only caveat is that non-students will receive text-based ads in the Gmail interface.

Will the email addresses now be permanent? I.e., will new graduates now be able to keep their university address (…a service many other universities provide…maybe the alumni association could pick up the cost, if there is one?)? Or will this account be deleted/become inaccessible like the old one once I’m no longer enrolled?

I decided to sign up for the Google Apps; it all sounded good. NOWHERE did it say it would take 48-72 hours to transfer my e-mail (until after I submitted it) … That would have influenced my decision about WHEN I made the change. I am doing 2 research projects and have 15 different addresses that I do not have access to right now. NOT HAPPY! Let others know they will not have access to their e-mail during transfer…..

You must make changes to your email client (outlook or thunderbird) if you receive mail from an email client program. In english if you use a program to get your USF email instead of logging into the web site you will have to change setting in the program to keep it working. USF Outlook 2007 Mail settings
